When Pooja Bavishi took the choice to launch her ice cream business, Malai, she knew her personal ambitions. "I started Malai as a way to honor the flavors I grew up with as a young Indian American in a popular and mainstream fashion," she says.

"Everyone is a victim of an ice cream memories from childhood and the majority of them relate to going to an ice cream stand in the neighborhood shop for a sweet treat or an ice cream cone together with family members you love," Pooja says. This reminiscence is the reason that has led Malai not only an ice cream stand-in at market as well as local food halls, to freezers in grocery stores as well as pop-up stores throughout New York City, and an incredibly popular flagship store located in Brooklyn providing both national and local delivery.
