When Pooja Bavishi made the decision to launch her company for ice-cream, Malai, she did so with a clear, personal vision. "I made Malai in order to honor the tastes I was raised with as a first generation Indian American in a popular and mainstream fashion," she says.

"Everyone has an memory of ice cream from their childhood , and the vast majority of them involve going to the local ice cream store to share a treat with your loved people," Pooja says. This nostalgia-infused flurry is what has brought Malai from a stand at markets and local food halls to freezers found in supermarkets as well as pop-up carts across New York City, and the bustling flagship store in Brooklyn offering nationwide and local delivery.
