After the launch of his book, Andy explores what it means to be an individual culinary writer and video producer, and--of course--cook, who's already gained a reputation as an influencer in his industry. "My philosophy when it comes when it comes to making content is that it should contain stories, perspectives and emotion, to ensure the content has meaning."

The website is curated as an experience

Andy traced the origins of his love for food going back to his childhood. "My parents immigrated into California from Iran in the late '70s And with them they brought the food traditions of their country," he says. "I consider that those practices in the kitchen and the flavor, methods and my extended family having me around are the things that sparked my first passion for cooking and food." He decided to pursue cooking and food writing as a profession due to the fact that that love had "expanded to a deep and ever-changing curiosity for the world of food."

"This website is designed for users who are unfamiliar with my work," Andy says. "I will ensure the people are aware of my work, and as well, they can engage with the any new and existing content which the website will create." One of the new material Andy is planning to develop will be on the Things I Enjoy webpage. The site gives him an opportunity to highlight his favorite food and lifestyle brands and expand the limits of his well-known branding a bit. "While my recipes and writing are a major part of my work for some time now," Andy says, "I will be taking on new opportunities that will be showcased on the site."

Lessons from the first year of an independent creator

This past year, while creating and releasing his first book Andy has also been exploring the ins-and-outs of working independently. That includes the process of developing his brand and building an environment that supports his work as a writer.

"I consider that the integrity of how I want to cook and write about food has very nearly remained the same," Andy says, referring to his approach to his brand now, compared to his approach before he became independent. "I consider my design aesthetic, which is something that has always been clear to me on an individual level, it is now visible and is a major element of my work. I have more creative control today."

Andy's other advice for aspiring creators? He suggests that you be selective with what projects you decide to work on, whenever possible. "Take to projects and collaborate with people that will inspire your and allow you to gain something by," Andy says. "But be aware that no single project will fulfill this requirement, and that's okay! But the point is to keep moving forward."
