How KevOnStage assists in building an entertainment industry that can be more effective

"I consider the best method to share the story of how I came to the point I am now is to tell it just one person and one video at a given time," tells comedian and creator Kevin Fredericks - better known as his online name KevOnStage. Kev is speaking to us via his office and workspace located in Los Angeles, the epicenter of his largest creative project until now: KevOnStage Studios. The digital artist hasn't gotten an entire production studio within a few days. Kev's business grew from being an occasional part-time job, to an entire career over the span of 10 years in digital.

"Before the standard path for comics was to move to L.A., get on the Tonight Show, and look for an agent to help you convince them," said the actor. "Now because of the rise of social media and other social media it is possible to attract an audience that is yours and become the most famous comedian on the planet." Since 2011, KevOnStage has slowly but steadily gained over 1M+ followers on Instagram and over 800K YouTube subscribers, by posting candid comedy videos and his loyal online followers and being called as"the Stage Crew.

"I think charting your own path is vital," adds Kev. "Right moment, I'm putting my own show together that I developed as well as directed and funded that nobody in Hollywood required to take on. I'm in a position to create every aspect and show the audience in a direct way."

Kev has been building his online community for over 10 years, but he says things took a time to get going. "I do not see any substantial growth after the introduction of KevOnStage through probably 2017" states Kev. "Before that I had been working hard, not getting much attention, as do the majority of people."

In that period the author was required to find his north star for creating material that was truly about him and his values. "When individuals don't make content that is based on their values it's tiring," states Kev. "I was always comfortable with never blowing out, however, I could make content that was something I believed in. That's why I've experienced more success, instead of doing work."

In the beginning, as his fame started to rise, Kev took to touring throughout the country with colleagues - however, the pandemic brought the events at the venue to a stop. Keen to come up with new ideas to sustain the momentum the younger brother of Kev approached him with a fresh concept of streaming.

   Returning your power

Kev is the only one who admits that the possibility of having an OTT service wasn't thought of or considered by him as an option for a future business decision. "We started out with films with no cost but then my brother suggested"Yo I've been thinking about an idea that we may be able to create the transition through our own application sometime in the near future,""" Kev shares. "I didn't think about this as an option."

Kev was in contact with producer and business associate Brennon Edwards to offer cooperation on the development of an OTT application. "It was a straightforward decision," says Brennon, who is now the President of KevOnStage Studios, because it let them produce (and generate revenue through) the content they create according to their own rules. "We are in a place where the bar of access for becoming a creator considerably lower. This has changed the way we work."

"We were able to go beyond what we had expected Hollywood to provide us with and complete the task by ourselves," he says. "We work directly with the people who have been provided to us. They're the ones that provide us the funds that allow us to do the things we'd like to create. We're in a position to come up with new ideas, and we are the creators."

In helping other creators to become empowered

The KOSS team led by Brennon Kev, Co-Founder and co-CEO Melissa Fredericks have consciously created an environment that's encouraging and stimulating for other Black creators to think about their own ideas. "I just want to say that I am grateful that this is a place for me to begin my journey, because people are working in the same place, and we let individuals to realize their goals at KOSS," says Kev.

What's amazing about this adventure is we're taking a stand in opposition to what Hollywood suggests, in our own power." adds Melissa. "We're creating a positive impact on people who surround us. That is not waiting for Hollywood to anoint the apron of your success. It's time to take a stand We've made it by our own efforts. Period. This can be done in our own way. Period. Furthermore, we're in a position to offer opportunities which they wouldn't get. Period."
