Greater control of Community communication to you and your fellow members

Jul 7, 2022

The settings have been changed for community notification to enhance the user experience (and lower the number of emails). Here's what's new.

What can you do to inform your neighbors of the happenings in the neighborhood?

It is important to let your customers know about exciting discussions, and encourage them to get engaged in more discussions. However it is essential to provide your users with the capability to manage their experience and prevent the overflow of notifications. We have had conversations with our founders about how crucial to strike the perfect equilibrium.

In the most recent update to the community feature , allows you and your audience greater control over notification messages. It means more active conversations, less flooded with email, and a social platform that brings both you and your users closer to each other.

Control your personal notifications preferences as a creator member

Community members and creators have the option of choosing which notifications they'd like receive on every topic: new posts or replies to posts you've made, and/or the latest replies to feedback.

Once you have logged into an online community as a member, go to Settings, then click on "Edit" next to Notifications. (Creators will find this option in the Notifications tab of your Account settings.)

There are a variety of communities you're following. Simply check or uncheck the boxes and select the kinds of messages you'd like to receive for each area.

For example, you might wish to receive notification for messages, comments, or replies in a subject that's time-sensitive such as Live Events and Announcements. Other areas, it's possible to be only notified whenever someone publishes a new post - or turn off announcements for the subject entirely.

It is also possible to swiftly switch notifications off and on simply by pressing "Mute All" or "Unmute All".

Furthermore, you can to alter your topic-specific notification settings from the "All topics"page or on an particular topic's page. Select the bell icon and then set your notification preferences.

Set default notifications for a topic

Creators are also able to establish default notification settings to each topic in the community. This gives you greater control over how members experience.

Instead of sending notifications to members of your organization for each article on a particular topic, you can choose the areas your members will be informed about and the types of notices they get.

Here's how:

In the Community tab on your dashboard, click "All Subjects". Then, click the "..." next topic you'd like to edit and select "Edit Topic". Next, you can select the settings to receive notifications under "Default Notifications".

Members can alter the setting for notification notifications at any point to their account. If members haven't changed their preferences, they'll be defaulted to the default settings set by the person who designed the topic.

We hope that these community updates provide a better experience to both the members and you. We appreciate your time!
