The following is our first conversation with illustrator of Canada design, artist and educator Maia Faddoul. Maia is a first-generation Canadian artist who works at her Montreal studio where she draws bright and colorful illustrations for editorials, packaging along with other things. Her style is high-contrast along with bright and vivid and frequently has a subtle messages of the need for social justice, which are concealed within.
Maia is a complete fan of color and an extreme in her work. Drawing style that I prefer can be described as "High Contrast".
My aesthetic is dynamic, lively and full of contrast, with a subtle social justice message hidden somewhere. I'm a total color enthusiast and a radical when it comes to my artistic style.
What's the primary to making Illustrations?
One important aspect of my work is creating art that represents my beliefs and values. My personality isn't the most vocal or socially active person. It is my habit to express my opinions and voice my opinion on injustices, and to raise awareness about the causes that matter to me.
