regarding opportunities that can change your career direction
Prior to moving to London in 2017, I lived in a tiny town in Germany and worked for a short time in the role of an After Effects animator. It wasn't a lot of creative opportunities and my abilities slowed down quickly and I became very annoyed.
Making the move to London and getting acquainted with the amazing animation folks there gave me a massive lift. It felt similar to "Damn I'm in the company of cool children . I've better start putting on my best."
Following my visit to this year's Pictoplasma Conference, I came to the decision to join the group of character designers who are innovative. I realized quickly that my characters perform best when rendered in 3D and I'm learning, which is challenging, but very enjoyable!
My work was noticed by the people at Greenhouse Animation, which now represents me as director for them.
The X-Files project and the secrets of disappearing socks
One of the first projects I did in my newly-discovered style was the Covered by Lemonade clip.

Lemonade Insurance approached me to create a work for its continuous Instagram art collaboration. Since the company is an insurance company for content, the idea of cute objects from the home in danger immediately occurred to me. It's why the X-Files idea came into being.
In the winter of last year I was locked down and rewatching the entire"X-files. Thus, the notion of an alien abduction of the classical kind seemed logical. The problem was that all characters had to be in the identical location in the same spot for the animation to stop in order to be abducted. That is when I had an idea of having the washing machine open and one pink sock flew towards the UFO.
While I was creating an UFO and also giving it a few legs I could observe the ways in which everything could be put together. The UFO has fallen off its feet and is trying to find it!
I believe that creating a good story can be done best by mixing different elements that are not connected initially. To make things happen that are unexpected, as well as to give inanimate objects an identity by making silly faces of their faces is what's most enjoyable to me!
Details about the animation process
My process begins with sketching the characters , and then the development of a storyboard. I transformed it into an animatic for Lemonade to communicate the idea and timing. After that, I jump to Cinema 4D and model all my characters. It is also when I test different strategies and design frames.
After the animation done in Cinema 4D is done, I transfer it onto After Effects for compositing and finishing touches. For the light beam that is pink, like the one above, this is accomplished by using After Effects.

The audio effects as well as the collaboration together with Phill Brookes
This was the first time I met working with a sound engineer Philip Brookes who truly rocked it! The work he did lifts the entire footage up to a new level and connects everything perfect! This was an incredible task that was completed and I'm excited to making more like this one!
We've had a conversation with Phil about the process of creating sound effects to use for The X-Files project. Listen to the conversation with Phil Brookes.
Presently, I'm learning to make characters rigged and create stunning textures with Cinema 4D and Redshift. I'm experimenting with the combination of 2D animation using 3D and am excited to see the direction that my character-design journey will lead my coming years!
Artists will be able to get advice on how to alter the direction their careers
Here are a few suggestions I'd like to share to anyone wanting to change directions:
- Discover which method is most suitable for your needs, and then learn about it! Moving design can feel like you must be aware of all there is. However, that's not the case.
- Consider your eccentricity seriously, Don't be afraid to acknowledge your oddness. Your distinctiveness is unique. Your voice, style and voice is distinctive.
- Be patient and accept your ideas. Whatever you see happening inside your head, take it into consideration, and then take advantage of the opportunity!
