If I could pick just one word to represent my drawing style that word would be "Spring'.
I want people to see my illustrations and feel like they're blooming, like a warm spring of flowering blooms.
Cottagecore is the life style I have chosen and believe in. The reason might be that I reside in Seoul, a big city and I love rural life and natural sceneries far more than the sights I take in every day.
Instead of expressing a sense of ferocity instead, I prefer to express a peaceful and tranquil mood, like what I observe in nature.
What's the secret to making your illustrations?
First, I'd like to discuss the things that I find inspiration in. My focus is on the joy from the smallest things. The flowers I encounter in the garden, the whispers of flowers flying in the breeze or even a tiny blossom at the corner of a road I pass while walking.
I work mainly with tiny wildflowers. Nature-inspired landscapes taken from ancient botanical encyclopedias and rural landscapes can also be a source of ideas. I keep a large amount of content through pictures and frequently take notes on coloring pencil concepts.
Let's discuss the method of working. I create drawings to the level of elaborate details as if they were actual flowers. I also express my feelings through colors.
I use sharp colored pencils that precisely draw the design of the bloom. It is then set with a gentle and warm atmosphere by making use of pastel tones instead of strong hues.
I like also to juxtapose the plain and texture of paper with the flower method of paper in order to give the impression of flowers blooming.
Instead of drawing just for fun, I think crafting papers with flowers can create a better atmosphere. This is a closer translation of my imagination.
