This day is celebrated by us, and invite all of participants to begin a fascinating trip through the fascinating background of IWD as a testimony to the efficacy of a collective effort.

Beginning with Seeds of Change to a Global Movement

The seeds for IWD began to germinate in the first half of 20th century. This was the time where the struggle for women's rights began to gain momentum. On the 8th of March 1857, workers from the textile industry marched in protest of low working conditions as well as a deficiency of rights for women in the textile industry. This strike called for shorter working hours, along with a the payment of a fair and reasonable living wages. A few years later, on the 8th of March an organized march by female who worked in the needle trades was held to protest child labor, conditions in sweatshops, as well as demand women's right to vote. In 1910, two years after the march, the day was changed to March 8th, which is now designated by the United Nations as International Women's Day.

Catalyst for Change

In the 20th century, IWD became a significant influencer for positive changes. It was a platform which allowed women to speak about issues of voting rights, fair work conditions and pay, and access to education. In 1975 IWD was recognized by the United Nations. IWD was acknowledged as a legitimate organization by the United Nations officially recognized IWD and acknowledged its value all over the world.          UQoBZkTnOHfCChKcIFYL         Source: U.S. Census Bureau
