We asked Titika about the key to creating her mysterious images in black and white.

"My Name is Titika Rotkjaer, I'm an artist hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark. Following my studies in communication in Roskilde University, Denmark, I moved to Norway to pursue a degree in visual arts, first at Oslo National Academy of the Arts, later in Bergen in Bergen, where I concluded my visual art studies through the Bergen Academy of Art and Design and earned an MA in textile Art. There is no formal training in photography. My understanding of editing and photography comes from my ongoing self-education.

Are you interested in learning more about my personal style? Would I like to discuss the way I express myself rather than style? I never think about style... I tell stories through an intimate and poetic perspective In each photograph I focus in determining mood, expression and the mood. Developing how my images appear is an ongoing process. I always aim to refine and clarify the expression. Sometimes , I edit old photos if I gain new knowledge which allows me to get closer to the image I had in mind.

The key to making the mysterious images I have created ...? In most of my images - made over the last four years - I've been exploring the complexity and sense of self and have a particular interest in the connection between inner and outer realities. A lot of my photos are not necessarily the same. comprise digitally from several photographs (all obviously were taken by me).

My approach usually begins with an intrigue or desire to investigate a particular theme or a complex of emotions. I shoot, write notes, and then read for additional knowledge. Then I shoot again. Working with the images often leads me to construct an original image out of many others. I experiment, subjectively as well as intuitively with the subject matter to let my pictures develop. There isn't an accurate vision of what I want to achieve to my eye, and then shoot the elements to build it."
