Art collages CreativeMindClass Blog : CreativeMindClass Blog
In the afternoon of Sunday, I discovered Olga sharing Instagram posts about my childhood neighborhood. In the middle of Warsaw's concrete jungle is a less-known and revered green zone. I used to go there during the summer months to gaze at the beautiful pine trees and catch a breath of the natural world inside my urban lung. In her account, Olga visited this area on her first trip, however she was also fascinated by one of the longest backyards in Warsaw. And I bet that soon she'll paint an inspired Boernerowo painting.
We inquired with Olga about her process for making her minimal collages and paintings of human-shaped landscapes
"My Name is Olga Szczechowska, and I'm living in Warsaw. From the time I was a youngster, I've drawn and painted often. I went to an art high school and studied Painting as well as Cultural Studies at the University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Torun.
I'm a designer, artist, and illustrator occasionally graphic designer. In my practice, I focus on the relationship between humans and nature, paying close attention to how we influence the environment in our backyards. Through observing trimmed hedges as well as decorative plants and well-designed home gardens I'm capturing the strange environment that surrounds us."
"For several years I have made minimalist collages. These collages were in the form of landscapes and still-life, or were made as the result of explorations with textures, shapes as well as colours.
My work is diverse as collage and painting are very different, but they have one thing that is common to both: they calm. I've heard this phrase repeatedly from my viewers, and I think that it best describes the nature of my work. When I'm tired of painting, I create collages and vice versa. A certain style can be a brief escape from the one.
It is my opinion that observation is the most important thing. I am attentive to all I see, including architectural structures, nature, as well as objects. All this is reflected in my work. My artworks don't see any person, but you get the feeling of human presence in trimmed hedges or in a cup left on the table."
