My background

My name is Ekaterina Boguslavskaya. I was born in Russia.

I attended college in Moscow, but I was a summer camper out in the country.

The water was not hot and the home was heated with a furnace as well as the neighbor's raised cows and goats. Wonderful times! Apart from nature and cycling, I was obsessed with animation. All my peers became adults and stopped enjoying cartoons. But I did exactly the opposite! I realized that this could be my favorite thing to do. That's how I got into the film academy in Moscow, Russia.

My style

I want my drawings to always provoke some profound feelings. Like coming to warm up by the fireplace after your day through the forest.

My process

I am awestruck by the process of drawing. It has something in common with meditation. When I'm working in the dark, it might get dark and dark. I may also become hungry, but nothing really matters while I'm engaged in my work.

Now I'm employed both in the illustration industry as well as animation... Also, there are board games too. I really love my job.

I've always been drawing lots. But it started to look better after I completed my studies. As I decided which and how to draw.

My suggestions to doubtful visual artists

Consider what you enjoy and you will surely enjoy the thing you like about it. Try to listen less to others when you don't like what they do. Everything will work out! And there will be people who will appreciate what you've done.

My technique

I draw almost everything on my iPad using Procreate. I sometimes finish an item using Photoshop.

The iPad really improved my lifestyle. Now I work at home, in cafes, and in libraries. I choose a place to work, I move around, I am not confined to sitting at my desk. So the iPad is a treasure that blends traditional drawing and computer drawing.

The iPad is loaded with great brushes. For example, I purchased watercolor brushes through "The Watercolor MaxPack - Brushes for Procreate". Every time I use them, I am ecstatic. I try them. They're as close to real watercolors as is possible.

A few thoughts on how I do my job.

It is my goal to create an outline sketch of objects. As I find hard edges rough and cold.

Sometimes I make my shadows cold and bluish by using the multiply setting. Sometimes, I apply overlay. However, I'm not sure very much.

Procreate comes with some great blur options, check the settings! There are several varieties, and they're excellent. But mostly I draw as I draw using traditional tools on paper or canvas.

I'm still looking, learning about my subject while trying to move closer to my image that I love by creating personal work.

Information about the Teriberka series

I did after traveling there (to Teriberka). Russian North, the Arctic. A town where people built ships to catch a lot of fish. Today, it's a little abandoned.

It is a beautiful image. Please google it! It's beautiful.

I'm always impressed by the North.

I like the animals, the people, the millions of shades of the moss. The tiny berries have a lot of vitamins, more than tropical fruits. It's very impressive.

Northern cliffs look like the skin of giant elephants! These are the emotions which I have tried to portray in the pictures.

The Tiny Things series

The idea came to my thoughts when I was very tired from work, the pandemic as well as the city.

Photos taken in the forest

I picked up the macro lens and headed into the forest. What a stunning beauty lay beneath my feet! Everything was stunning. It gave me a lot of creative energy. This is how the idea came to be.

No matter what happens no matter what happens, there's a wonder just beneath your feet!

How can I plan my work time

The most difficult thing to do is keep your time and sleep in check and to say no to requests that aren't acceptable. Or to take on many tasks in order to stay afloat and not get tired of doing what you love. The whole thing I'm trying to master.

The creative blockages

The tough element is the actual process and sometimes the process doesn't take place. I don't like the result. You can go through up to eight hours and get angry. After that, just a few days later, you can redo it in an hour and the result looks perfect. What's that? Magic.

My little advice about how to get over creative blocks

In the event of completing some type of task - do not sit down immediately to draw (if possible). Your brain should be able to process the task as you go along working on other tasks. This is how I believe the best solutions come.

How I view my work

If I were to grade my work, I'd never rate myself an "excellent". It's very exhausting and I do my best to make myself miserable. However, on the other side I am pushed ahead.

Drawing is like a great adventure!

If you have tickets to a country, you already know something from Google and something else will be surprising your right there. It seems like a cool adventure to me.
