My story
My name is Ekaterina Boguslavskaya. I was born in Russia.
I attended college in Moscow however, I also spent my summers out in the country.
It was cold and there was no hot water The house was heated with a furnace which was used by the neighbors to raise cows and goats. Wonderful times! In addition to nature and bikes I was obsessed with animation. All my peers grew up and stopped liking cartoons, but I did the opposite! It was then that I realized that it would become my preferred thing to do. It was how I got into film school at Moscow, Russia.
My personal style
I would like my artwork to always bring out some deeply emotional feelings. As if you are sitting by the fireplace after a day of skiing or hiking in the mountains.
My procedure
I am awestruck by the process of drawing. It has something in common with meditation. While I'm at work, it may get dark, and I'll become hungry, but nothing really affects me while working.
Today, I work in both the animation industry and illustration... And even for board games. I truly love the work I do.
I've always drawn lots. However, it began to look better after I completed my studies. As I decided which and how to draw.
My suggestion to skeptical visual artists
Think about what you like and enjoy the thing you like about it. Do your best to not listen to people when you don't enjoy what they are doing. All will be well! You will meet people who will be enthralled by what you're doing.
My technique
I draw almost everything on my iPad in Procreate. I sometimes finish something in Photoshop.
The iPad has really improved my lifestyle. Now I work at home, in cafes, libraries. I choose a place to work, I travel, and I do not just sit at my desk. So the iPad is an amazing tool that combines classic drawing and computer-generated drawing.
The iPad has great brushes. For example, I purchased watercolor brushes from "The Watercolor MaxPack - Brushes for Procreate". Every time I use them, I am ecstatic. I make use of the brushes. They're very close to the real thing as is possible.
A few thoughts on what I do for work
I attempt to draw a rough outline of the objects. Because I find hard outlines brutal and cold.
Sometimes, I tint my shadows cold and bluish by using the multiplier setting. Sometimes I use overlay. But I don't understand that much about it.
Procreate has some good blur options, check them out! There are several varieties, and they're very good. However, I prefer drawing as I draw using traditional tools on paper or canvas.
I'm always looking for more, learning about my subject, and trying to get closer to the image I like by making personal work.
The Teriberka series. Teriberka series
I did after traveling there (to Teriberka). Russian North, the Arctic. It was a town that used to build ships and take a great deal of fish. It's now a bit of a ghost town.
It is a beautiful image. Please google it! It's beautiful.
I always like the North.
I like the animals, the people and the million of shades of moss. Tiny berries contain loads of vitamins, more than any tropical fruit. It's quite amazing.
Northern rock formations look similar to the skin of huge elephants! This is the feeling that I tried to show through the photos.
Concerning the Tiny Things series
The idea came to my head as I was tired of my job, the flu and the urban environment.
I purchased an macro lens, and then went deep into the woods. And how much incredible beauty lay beneath my feet! Everything was stunning. It gave me plenty of inspiration and creativity. It was how this project was born.
Whatever happens it is possible to find a miracle that is right there!
How I organize my work time
The hardest thing is to manage time and rest as well as answer 'no' to requests that aren't suitable. Or to take on a lot of work in order to stay afloat without getting tired by doing what you enjoy. All this I am still learning.
Concerning the blocks to creativity
The hard aspect is actually the procedure itself Sometimes it fails to come out as expected. I don't like the result. You can go through up to eight hours and get angry. Then, a few days afterwards, you can redo it in a matter of minutes and everything looks good. What's that? Magic.
A few tips for how to conquer creative blocks
When there is some kind of task - do not sit down immediately to draw (if it's possible). Allow your mind to think in the background while you're working on other tasks. It's the way I see you can find the best solution.
What do I think of my work
If I was to evaluate my own work - I'd never rate myself the grade of "excellent". It's extremely exhausting and makes me am a slave to myself. However, on the other side, it drives me to move forward.
Drawing is like an adventure!
Tickets are available for a destination, and you already know something about it on Google but something might surprise you on the spot. At first, it looks to be an exciting adventure to me.
