AAPI Heritage Month Employee Showcase: Paul Choi
Paul Choi is a Senior Community Manager here at . This spotlight will be turned over to him via our blog to showcase his contribution to a important time of Asian American and Pacific Islander history, and more!
Can you elaborate on what you do here at ?
As part of The Community team, we manage the Hero Community and other community focused programs as well as sources. The mission of our team is to assist in connecting customers around the world and empower our Heroes to be successful entrepreneurs with community programs and tools.
What's an accomplishment in your career that you are particularly pleased with?
How has your cultural identity impacted your journey working in technology?
I think that's something that I'm trying to better understand my own self.
Do you observe Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and , if yes, what do they mean to you?
No, not specifically AAPI Heritage Month, but as a child, I was a part of and took part in Korean heritage and cultural events including festivals and various other events. As with many others, I've learned how important these types of celebrations and events of the culture help us understand our the concept of belonging and identity.
Can you describe an event or person from AAPI past that was meaningful to you?
Most meaningful would have to be my parents, as well as the countless immigrant families that uprooted themselves in search of better opportunities elsewhere. It's quite mind-blowing think about the kinds of issues facing the older generations in the AAPI community. In addition, I would like to say that I will never forget what an experience Linsanity was...so thank you for Jeremy Lin!
What ways can you get involved within the AAPI community?
I generally seek community in the spaces that I'm spending the most time. So in college I participated heavily with KSA (the Korean Students Association) in addition to previous workplaces I've participated in different AAPI focused ERGs.
What are you most excited when you work there ?
My most favorite thing about working with is my team of people which I get to work with. I truly appreciate the welcoming and supportive atmosphere that's been created, and the love that's shown about our products as well as our customers is really inspiring to be part of.
Are there any additional details you'd like to share on the topic with our readers on our blog?
This is a shameless way to invite our clients to sign up for to the Hero Community! We'll be working to create the most engaging, and enriched community experience possible and would like to meet you there!
